You know that old story about the parents sending one of their daughters to an expensive out of State Private Women’s College, then, after Graduation, the daughter goes in the opposite direction and does nothing even remotely related to her expensive and hard won education? In a nutshell, that’s my story!
After college, I landed in New Orleans and found myself immersed in food and hospitality. I began at the Windsor Court Hotel and was part of an amazing team of hospitality professionals who opened the luxury property in the heart of New Orleans.
From there, I relocated to Washington, D.C. and worked about a block away from the White House for Skadden, Arps, “the most profitable law firm in the world.” I was immersed in numbers and running the billing department there. I needed a creative outlet and began making and selling apple pies and chocolate cakes with mocha buttercream. All baked with love from my “Easy Bake Oven” in my teeny tiny kitchen at the time. My pies and cakes led to me opening my catering business and food store in northern Virginia. I had an amazing client list and some of my most notable party guests were Margaret Thatcher, John Major, Jack Kemp, the Bush Family and Colin Powell.
After a great ride, some country/western lyrics came into play (you know the song – my Dog ran away with my Best Friend)! I found myself in Austin working for SYSCO Foods, plus the iconic Austin restaurants Chez Zee and Kerbey Lane Café. I was well schooled in all things Queso and Crème Brulee French Toast.
Fast forward to summer 2019. I literally took a wrong turn driving and found myself in Downtown Flatonia. I purchased a historical building which was calling my name. and I am now delighted to begin a new life chapter in Flatonia, Texas.
